A West Lancashire Mark Mason Honoured by the President of France
W.Bro. Tony Johnson PGJD. 102 Years Old Today, 13th October 2021

Appointed to the Rank of
“Chevalier” in the “Ordre national de la Legion d’Honneeur”

A few months ago, we had a resume of Tony’s private and Masonic career which in itself was quite amazing and to be honest how he made it back to blighty and managed to pick up his life where he’d left off before being called up is a tribute to his strength of character.
He is still managing to get about, well a slow walk to the end of his road, however his wife Myra is not doing so well, after needing a hip replacement and waiting for a couple of years it has still not been done, now they feel it’s too late to bother. After spending the past few months going in and out of hospital, she is glad to be at home again and Tony is managing with the help of carers twice a day to look after her in fine style.
Tony landed on Gold Beach at 07.30 on the 6th June 1944 and moved West to capture Arromanches with the Durham Light Infantry, on reaching the wonderful milestone age of 100 years plus he was considered for the appointment and received a lovely letter from the French Embassy in London on behalf of the President Macron.
It is another very special medal to add to the collection he already has, (take a look) all his friends in the Mark Degree wish him well on reaching such a fabulous age and his honour received and we all wish him many more healthy and happy birthdays to come.
